چکیده

This position paper presents a view on bridging the cognitivecomputational gap in the field of creativity, creative reasoning and problem solving. Starting from the levels of Cognition and Computation, their potential bootstrap is discussed in relation to the concept of Cognitive Social Machines. Five distinct aspects of bridging the cognitivecomputational gap in creative reasoning using cognitive social machines are described and discussed in the creativity domain. These aspects refer to (i) building systems and models which solve creative reasoning tasks; (ii) computationally generated tools for a deeper understanding of cognition; (iii) cognitively-inspired processes and knowledge representation types; (iv) computational cognitive assistance, support and training and (v) evaluative informativity metrics for cognitive social machines.

Understanding the Creative Mind: A Review of Margaret Boden's Creative Mind

Margaret Boden, a master at bringing ideas from artificial intelligence and cognitive science to the masses, has done it again. In The Creative Mind, she has produced a wellwritten, well-argued review and synthesis of current computational theories relevant to creativity. This book seems appropriately pitched for students in survey courses and for the intelligent lay public. And if ever there w...

A creative artificially-intuitive and reasoning agent in the context of live music improvisation

This paper reports on the architecture and performance of a creative artificially-intuitive and reasoning agent (CAIRA) as an improviser and conductor for improvised avant-garde music. The agent’s listening skills are based on a music recognition system that simulates the human auditory periphery to perform an Auditory Scene Analysis (ASA). Its simulation of cognitive processes includes a cogni...

COINVENT: Towards a Computational Concept Invention Theory

We aim to develop a computationally feasible, cognitivelyinspired, formal model of concept invention, drawing on Fauconnier and Turner’s theory of conceptual blending, and grounding it on a sound mathematical theory of concepts. Conceptual blending, although successfully applied to describing combinational creativity in a varied number of fields, has barely been used at all for implementing cre...

Creativity in care: The need for nursing today

The rise of emerging needs, the emergence of person-centered care, and the departure of care from conventional academic stereotypes, raises the need for evidence-based practice and efficient clinical reasoning in nursing. All this requires fluidity of mind and creativity in patient care. Given the importance of creativity in nursing care and its consequences at the individual and organizational...

Creativity and Cognitive Development: The Role of Perceptual Similarity and Analogy

We believe that current research in creativity (especially in artificial intelligence and to a great extent psychology) focuses too much on the product and on exceptional (big-C) creativity. In this paper we want to argue that creative thinking and creative behavior result from the continuation of typical human cognitive development and that by looking into the early stages of this development,...
